Our Programs

Equine Assisted Somatic Experiencing (EASE)

EASE is a uniquely structured, trauma-informed program that strategically blends somatic awareness with the natural dynamics of a horse herd. The core philosophy is that recovery is achieved by honoring the client's inner physical experience (soma) and the quiet, nonjudgmental wisdom of the horses.

EASE: Program Structure and Key Elements

The program is led by a licensed therapist and an equine specialist, who work together to create a contained and resonant space for healing, primarily for trauma survivors.

The healing process is built around five core elements:

Somatic Grounding

  • Focus: Clients are guided to become "embodied" by turning their focus inward to heighten awareness of their physical sensations and emotions.

  • Purpose: This foundational skill teaches clients how to regulate an activated nervous system and bypass mental overwhelm.

Observation, Not Interaction

  • Focus: The therapy is intentionally hands-off and focuses entirely on observation of the herd, without imposing human expectations or direct contact.

  • Purpose: This distance creates a safe sanctuary for trauma survivors by removing pressure for physical interaction or performance.

Learning Communication from Afar

  • Focus: The equine specialist directs the client to notice the herd’s sensitive, constant, and clear nonverbal communication from a respectful distance.

  • Purpose: The herd provides immediate and clear insight into genuine social dynamics and emotional honesty.

Exploring Boundaries

  • Focus: The respectful distance between the client and the herd allows for the development of healthy boundaries and body awareness at the client's own pace.

  • Purpose: Clients gain insights into what healthy relationships look like by observing the horses' clear social structures and respectful movements.

Mirroring Authentic Connection

  • Focus: Clients observe the unique personalities and social stories of the Harmony Herd.

  • Purpose: This emphasizes a healing journey built on trust, boundaries, and authentic connection—a mutual presence grounded in respect for the natural way of being.

Core Value Proposition

EASE empowers clients to reconnect with the quiet, intuitive wisdom held within their own body, using the horses as honest and reliable nonverbal guides. The approach differs from traditional equine therapies by making hands-off observation and somatic awareness the primary tools for healing.

Beyond the Alarm: Resilience and Connection for First Responders

For the individuals who inhabit our front lines—the nurses, the teachers, the first responders, the social workers supporting families in crisis, and the mental health professionals holding space for trauma—there is one constant professional demand: Be ready. Be alert. Manage the chaos, suppress your own emotional weight, and move on to the next urgent call for service.

This commitment to service, while profoundly noble, takes a heavy biological toll. Over the years, the body’s internal emergency switch, the Sympathetic Nervous System—our alarm—is held in a constant state of activation. Even when they are off the clock, the physiological markers of hypervigilance persist: the shallow, hurried breathing, the jaw perpetually tight, and the mind running endless assessments of what might go wrong. The alarm bell is perpetually ringing, making deep, restorative rest feel like an impossible luxury.

The Power of Coherent Connection

This is not traditional talk therapy; it is a direct, action-based resourcing experience focused on biological and emotional grounding.  Our herd provides a unique medium for recovery. As masters of presence and regulation, horses exist in a state of consistent energetic coherence. Their vast, quiet, non-judgmental presence creates a powerful felt sense of safety that allows your chronically activated system to stand down.

The Mechanism of Relief:

  • Nervous System Recalibration: When you connect with the herd, your body instinctively begins to mirror their low-stress state. This helps you shift from constant fight-or-flight to a grounded, regulated presence.

  • Intuition and Instinct: The work helps you bypass mental overwhelm and reconnect with your core intuition—the very instinct that keeps you safe on the job.

  • Heart Rate and Presence: By engaging with the horse’s energy field, you learn to regulate your own physical responses, improving your ability to maintain presence and composure during high-stress situations.

Building Sustainable Resilience

  • Deepen Connection: Find authentic peer connection in a shared, non-critical environment.

  • Resource Building: Develop reliable, somatic tools to manage stress before it leads to burnout.

  • Sustained Well-being: Move beyond surviving the next shift to building a foundation for long-term emotional health.

  • Practical, embodied skills you can take back to your daily life

Your system deserves to rest. Your resilience deserves to be reinforced. We invite you to step away from the alarm and step into the peace of the herd.

Neurobiology of Co-Regulation - The Science of Equine Assisted Somatic Experiencing

This program offers a deep dive into the fascinating neurobiology of horses and humans, illuminating the profound connections between the two species . Participants will move beyond theory to explore how these two nervous systems interact, uncovering the science that underpins connection, attunement, and co-regulation. By gaining insights into how these relationships fundamentally impact emotional well-being and resilience, you will unlock the full therapeutic potential of working with horses.

Program Focus and Core Learning

  • Understanding Co-Regulation: Delve into the science of how human and equine nervous systems mutually influence each other. Learn how the horse's calm presence can physically support a client's shift out of a fight/flight state.

  • The Power of Embodied Herd Therapy: This training's central element is the introduction to Embodied Herd Therapy, a holistic, relationship-centered approach that seamlessly integrates the natural behaviors and wisdom of the herd into therapeutic practice.

  • Experiential Skill Building: Through dynamic experiential learning, observation of the Harmony Herd, and practical application exercises, you will develop tangible skills to foster healing, build attunement, and strengthen professional relationships.

  • Respectful Practice: The program deeply emphasizes ethical integration, ensuring you are empowered to harness the transformative power of the horse-human connection while honoring the autonomy and well-being of the horses you serve.

Who This Program Is Designed For

This intensive training is specifically tailored for professionals ready to integrate advanced somatic and relational techniques:

  • Mind-Body Therapists: For licensed practitioners with a mind-body focus (such as those trained in Somatic Experiencing or other body-oriented modalities) who wish to expand their therapeutic skills by confidently incorporating equine-facilitated approaches.

  • Relationship-Centered Equine Specialists: For equine professionals who already embrace attuned, relationship-centered horsemanship and seek to deepen their understanding of the neurobiological mechanics behind the horse-human healing dynamic.
